This Pine tree had a 2 meter split running down the trunk at about breast height. Because there wasn't sufficient room to drop it, it had to be 'pieced down'.
Piecing down is a standard removal technique in confined spaces. The limbs are removed while the arborist ascends to the top of the tree. Next the top is felled out and lowered. Finally, manageable pieces of the remaining spar are cut and dropped on the way down.
